University of Waikato, shortly termed as UoW, is a leading public research university located in Hamilton, New Zealand’s North Island. It was founded in 1964 and is the country’s first university which was designed from a black canvas. The university does not allow anyone to smoke on campus and in the university-owned vehicles, thus become a smoke-free university.

As per the QS World University Rankings 2016-2017, UoW is ranked at the 324th position in the world and in the top 200 for its 10 subject areas. This placed it in the top 3% universities worldwide. With the student population of more than 12,000 including over 2,000 international students from more than 70 countries, UoW has gained a worldwide reputation for teaching, research and other services.

The university has 2 campuses.

‘Hamilton Campus’, the main campus of the university covers 64 hectares of land. It is located at just 5 minutes of driving distance from the city centre. It is equipped with all basic facilities, such as cafes, eateries, a gym, library, banks, calm study areas, sports and recreation areas, and many more.

‘Tauranga Campus’, the university shares the Windermere and Bongard campuses located in the south of the city and in the heart of the city respectively. They have cafes, library, sports and fitness centre, computer labs and health services.
