University of Victoria, also known as Victoria or UVic, is a public research university situated in Greater Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In 1903, the university was established with the name ‘Victoria College’ and later in 1963 it became the University of Victoria through the Royal Charter.
Since 2010, it is ranked at the top among other Canadian universities. It has gained a position in the top 200 in QS World University Rankings 2016 for research in five areas.

The university participates in various multi-institutional research organizations. Marine research is conducted on the university’s field station located on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Research at UVic is carried out by the collaborative efforts of the students and faculty with international partners in order to deal with the global issues.
UVic is a home to several research projects related to seismic, oceanic and climate change, fuel cell, new media, wireless, biotechnological and others. The university works with the number of leading technology and biomedical companies.

The main campus of the university is located in Gordon Head in Greater Victoria. It is spread over 403 acres of land, only 15 minutes from downtown Victoria. The innovative architecture, striking gardens and beautiful surroundings make the campus lively.
The campus has academic buildings, student union building, residence buildings, sports grounds and several other facilities. Victoria has a variety of on-campus housing options that can accommodate more than 3,200 students. The other features include libraries, museum, art gallery, lecture halls, auditorium, off-campus housing, health services, computer store etc.
Victoria offers a number of opportunities to pursue the interest or hobby by organizing social, cultural and sports events. These include concerts, quizzes, lectures, exhibitions, plays, music, athletics and others.
In sports and athletics, UVic team is called as Victoria Vikes or simply Vikes. The teams compete in several inter-university and intercollegiate events including Canada West Universities Athletic Association, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
UVic provides a number of scholarships and awards as the financial support to the students to cost their education. Every year, more than 8 million dollars scholarships are awarded based on the academic excellence, and more than 4 million dollars bursaries are given to the students in financial needs. Work study opportunities & loans are also given as the other funding sources.
