University of Michigan, shortly known as U-M, UM, UMichand U of M, is a public research university situated in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. It was founded in 1817 in Detroit as the University of Michigania. It was moved to Ann Arbor in 1837 with only 40 acres land at the initial stage. In Ann Arbor, first class was held in 1841 with six students and two professors, while first degree was awarded in 1845.

Ann Arbor Campus is the main campus of the University of Michigan. It is spread over more than 3,000 acres of area that include over 500 major buildings. It is divided into four parts - Central, North, Medical and Ross Athletic.
‘Dearborn Campus’ (opened in 1959) and ‘Flint Campus’ (opened in 1956) are two regional campuses of U-M.
