University of Birmingham, also known as Birmingham University, is a public research university situated in Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom. It was established in 1900 after receiving a Royal Charter by Queen Victoria. Its roots started from the foundation of Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery in 1828. With its university status, it turned to be the first civic and campus university in the country.
It is a member of ‘Russell Group’ of UK research universities and ‘Universitas 21’ of an international network of research universities. As per in the QS World University Rankings 2016-17, it has been ranked 15th in the United Kingdom and 82nd in the world.
