Jawaharlal Nehru University, shortly termed as JNU, is a public central university situated in New Delhi, India. It was founded in 1969 by an Act of Parliament. The university was named after the first Prime Minster of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. The bill for its establishment was placed in 1965 in the Rajya Sabha. But due to the opposition, it took one year to get passed to Lok Sabha for the approval. In 1969, it got its existence.

JNU campus is located in the southern part of New Delhi. It is well connected with a railway station, inter-state bus terminal and Indira Gandhi international airport. It covers 1000 acre lush green area and provides a broad range of academic, non-academic and extra-curricular facilities.
These include a library, labs, hostels, guest houses, convention centre, placement cell, auditorium, sports complex, healthcare services, lecture halls, cafes, canteens, sports and recreation, and others.
The university has various clubs dedicated to the number of artistic and cultural activities. It also provides world-class facilities for several sports such as football, table tennis, badminton, basketball, gym, yoga, cricket, chess, taekwondo, mountaineering, trekking etc.

JNU facilitates a number of financial aid programs to the students in order to help them in managing their educational expenses easily. Merit-cum-means scholarships are available for the meritorious students with low family income. Fellowships and awards are also awarded to the students who meet the eligibility criteria of the particular assistance program.
