Heriot-Watt University is a public research university situated in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1821 as the School of Arts of Edinburgh by Leonard Horner, a Scottish businessman. In 1852, its name was changed to Watt Institution and later to School of Arts and became Heriot-Watt College in 1885. It granted the university status by a Royal Charter in 1966.
