Flinders University is a public research university situated in Adelaide, South Australia. It was established in 1966 and opened by Queen Elizabeth. The university was named after Matthew Flinders who discovered and studied the South Australian coastline in 1802. The classes were started with 400 students. The first undergraduate medical student was admitted in 1974.
Flinders is a member of the Innovative Research Universities Group. It has gained a position in the top 400 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and in the top 300 in the Times Higher Education rankings of the world universities.

Flinders has three campuses.

The university has several sports teams that participate in a number of competitions. It provides numerous sports, fitness and recreational facilities that enable students to pursue their passion and interest along with the study.
