Flinders University is a public research university situated in Adelaide, South Australia. It was established in 1966 and opened by Queen Elizabeth. The university was named after Matthew Flinders who discovered and studied the South Australian coastline in 1802. The classes were started with 400 students. The first undergraduate medical student was admitted in 1974.

Flinders is a member of the Innovative Research Universities Group. It has gained a position in the top 400 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and in the top 300 in the Times Higher Education rankings of the world universities.

Flinders has three campuses.

  • ‘Bedford Park Campus’, located south of Adelaide’s CBD is the main campus of Flinders. The leafy surroundings and panoramic views to the coast give lively learning experience.
  • ‘Victoria Square Campus’, located in the heart of city’s CBD offers various programs.
  • ‘Tonsley Campus’, built in 2015, it is located in Tonsley. It is a home to School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics.

By providing on-campus housing, Flinders has become the only university in South Adelaide offering such facility. Other amenities include libraries, shops, post office, ATMs, health services, eateries, security, parking, transport, sports and fitness facilities, and many more to add to the list.

Extra-curricular activities

The university has several sports teams that participate in a number of competitions.
