Auckland University of Technology, shortly named as AUT, is a second largest university in New Zealand. The university was founded in 1895 as Auckland Technical School. In 1906, the name had been changed to Auckland Technical College. In 2000, the university was granted with its current name after Auckland Institute of Technology (AIT).

As per QS Employability Rankings 2015, AUT was ranked first for its employability in New Zealand. AUT has more than 29,000 students including 7,000 international students from more than 100 countries. Being a fastest growing university, AUT offers a wide range of degree programs and research that reflects this changing world.

AUT has more than 15 Research Institutes and Centres. AUT focuses on nationally leading research related to various areas. With national and international organizations, business and communities collaboration, the university is continually achieving success in bringing great impact on the worldwide wellbeing and living.  

With the growing research profile of the university, enrollments in the research programs and external funding can be seen clearly. Every year, AUT research revenue gets increased by a certain value. The university spends approx $23 million per year on research.

AUT has four campuses. These are:

  • ‘City Campus’, AUT’s largest campus located in the heart of Auckland, is a home to many academic divisions.
  • ‘North Campus’, is a home to teacher education, health sciences and sports & recreation courses and research.
  • ‘South Campus’, located in the heart of South Auckland
  • ‘AUT Millennium campus’, located on the North shore of Auckland, is a home to sport and health research.

The restaurants, galleries, shopping centres, nightlife and other attractions are easily accessed from the city campus.


AUT offers several types of scholarships to the potential students. Apart from university funding, nearly 100 other scholarships are also offered by external funders. The students have to apply for the scholarships by simply filling the form with required information.
